The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has announced previously that Eurocodes will be used as Singapore's building codes from 1st April 2013. The Eurocodes is a new set of standards for the structural design of buildings and civil engineering works. However, to help the industry move to the new codes smoothly, BCA will allow building professionals to submit the structural plans of a building using either the Eurocodes or the British Standards from 1st April 2013 for two years. On 1 April 2015, BCA will withdraw all current British Standards codes from use. The Eurocodes will replace them as Singapore's prescribed building codes for structural design.
As a professional society, SSSS always organise and participate in activities to upgrade industry’s expertise in particular for structural steel related matters. SSSS has conducted courses, seminars and workshops during this transition period before a total switch to the Eurocodes 3 and 4 on 1st April 2015. As a continuous effort to help building professionals become proficient in the Eurocodes 3 and 4, SSSS has initiated a programme to create web based Design Spreadsheets in the society website www.ssss.org.sg . Those Design Spreadsheets could assist engineers to perform design calculation for some structural components as per Eurocodes 3 and 4. Through this initiative, SSSS wish engineers could perform design calculation faster if there are structural components that required a quick design calculation check. The SSSS wish to thank the following organisations and individuals for the contribution towards the Design Spreadsheets:
